Philip (Muzi) Branch

Philip Muzi Branch is a Native of Richmond, Virginia.  He attended Virginia Commonwealth University where he received both his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (1980) and his Master of Art Education degree (1986).  He has been an arts educator with the Richmond Public Schools, the College of William & Mary; Williamsburg, Virginia, Virginia Union University; Richmond, Virginia, Saint Paul's College; Lawrenceville, Virginia, and Virginia State University; Petersburg, Virginia.  He has also served as the Assistant Director and Fine Arts Coordinator at the Appomattox Regional Governor's School for the Arts and Technology in Petersburg, VA. Currently, he is Director of Cultural Programs for the VCU Health System in Richmond, VA. He is also CEO of Holla Back Hip Hop Greeting Cards, Inc. and President of Muzi Graphics and Fine Art. 

Philip is an illustrator, designer and painter.  He has served as art director for Black Fire Records and N.A.M.E. Brand Records creating album cover art for The Oneness of Juju, Plunky and Oneness, Southern Energy Ensemble, Kevin Christopher Teasley, Puzi Phillips, Paris Ford and Wayne Davis.

Philip is registered with the Virginia Arts Commission on the official roster of the "Artists in Education" Program and has completed residencies in mural painting with Henrico County Public Schools, Petersburg Public Schools, Richmond Public Schools, Nokesville Public Schools, Covington Public Schools, Big Stone Gap Public Schools, Dinwiddie County Public Schools, Staunton Public Schools, Lynchburg Public Schools and Appalachia Public Schools.

Philip expresses his love and respect for African American culture by painting images of the Diaspora.  His award winning paintings have been exhibited at The Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia, The Allegheny Highlands Arts Center, The Medical College of Virginia, Arts on the Square, Inc., PANAFEST, Ghana, West Africa and The Daura Gallery.  His work is part of the permanent collection of SunTrust (formerly Crestar) Bank, Richmond Community Hospital, Lynchburg College, First Market Bank and many private collectors.

Philip, also known as Muzi, is an accomplished musician and song writer.  He plays bass guitar.  He  is an original member of the internationally acclaimed musical group, Plunky and Oneness.  His songs are featured on many of the group's albums and compact discs.
