African American Art: Defining the Distinction
Some curators and collectors of African American art do not differentiate between the artists they collect and the artwork itself. Certain African American art collections include pieces by Black American artists that don't represent African American culture. This work shouldn't be labeled as African American art or included in such collections. It's crucial to distinguish between two types of collections and collectors: those who collect art by African Americans and those who collect African American art. Museums and galleries must also recognize this difference.
With this body of work I am intentionally creating Non-African-American Art, thus the title "NBA Series". NBA stands for "Not Black Art."
